Troca-troca (2002) is a work by Jarbas Lopes composed of three colorful Volkswagen Beetles, originally yellow, blue, and red, that had their bodies interchanged, resulting in three multicolored cars. They were used by the artist and a group of friends on a trip from Rio de Janeiro to Curitiba, in 2002. The communication between the cars was made through an interconnected sound system.
Along the way, they would put some stickers on the windshield of other cars on the road, containing the archive of palindromes collected by artist Luis Andrade: ‘zé deserto, três é dez,’ ‘a vadia saída vã,’ and ‘e o bolero; borel oboé,’ among others. In 2007, after going through restoration, the cars took the road once again, this time from Belo Horizonte until Brumadinho, after passing by the surrounding communities.
