Designed by Arquitetos Associados, the Galeria Miguel Rio Branco was inaugurated in 2010 with a project that establishes a dialogue with the baroque reference present in his work. Taking advantage of the sloped ground, the architecture is divided into one suspended block and another one underground.
Such contraposition is also present in the lighting of the spaces, since indirect natural light prevails in the lower ground, while the second space is marked by the absence of it. This way, the dramatic aspect of the artist’s work is highlighted by lightbulbs individually oriented towards the artworks.
