Yayoi Kusama Gallery
As of July 16, Instituto Inhotim inaugurates its twentieth permanent gallery, dedicated to Yayoi Kusama (1929). Visitors will discover two iconic works by the artist: I’m Here, But Nothing (2000) and Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity (2009), which are part of the Inhotim collection.
Yayoi Kusama is one of the most influential artists in the world contemporary art, known for the diversity of formats and languages in her works, notably the immersive installations that invite the public to enter a universe that sharpens our understanding of what is considered reality.
The concept of self-obliteration guides the artist from her desire to deny individual existence and merge with infinity, and is present in her performances, paintings, sculptures, installations, literary works, films, and other pieces.
The works I’m Here, But Nothing (2000) and Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity (2009) question the notions of permanence and fleetingness, merging the individual with the whole, and changing the way space is perceived.
Please check the special visitation operation for the Yayoi Kusama Gallery.
