Aleksandra Mir started her studies at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden, 1986-87), obtained a bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the New York School of Visual Arts (1992), and studied cultural anthropology at the New School for Social Research (USA, 1994-1996). Cooperative work with other artists makes for a significant part of her projects, bringing geopolitical and social issues and reflections to the foreground, while making use of languages as diverse as installation, performance, and video

Since the 2000s, the artist has been developing large-scale drawings with Sharpie pen, a kind of felt-tip marker. One of her most known works is The First Woman on the Moon (1999), made with sand in the Wijk aan Zee beach, in the Netherlands. She has participated in the following biennials: 52^nd and 53^rd Venice Biennale (Italy, 2007 and 2009), The Whitney Biennial (USA, 2004), and 9^th Mercosul Biennial (Brazil, 2013).
