Janet Cardiff first graduated in photography and engraving at Queens University (Canada), in 1980. After her experience with filmmaker Georges Miller, in 1983, Cardiff started to produce works involving sound, as well as sound installations. In her works, she explores emotions, memories, and imagination, having the sense of hearing as central to build spaces pervading fiction and reality.
In addition to the participation in different editions of the Venice Biennale (Italy), Istanbul Biennial (Turkey) and the Kassel Documenta (Germany), solo exhibitions of her have been recently held at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey (Mexico, 2019), Oude Kerke Amsterdam (Netherlands, 2018) and 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, in Kanazawa (Japan, 2017).
