The sculpture Gui Tuo Bei (2001) is placed at the end of the avenue leading to the farmhouse of the later farm that is now Instituto Inhotim. It makes reference to monolithic monuments of Chinese tradition, usually carried by a turtle and common in sacred places and public spaces. The engraved text narrates a saying about a man who, despite his advanced age, manages to move the mountains that were blocking his way home.
The praise of determination and effort is also present in the figure of the turtle, bearing the sculpted face of Zhang Huan himself, thus making a reference to the work of carrying a tradition, as well as to thinking beyond it.
