International Seminar Transmutar: ways of being in the world, gestures that preserve life

During the 18th Spring of Museums, on September 28 and 29, Inhotim will be integrating all its sectors in the International Seminar Transmutar: ways of being in the world, gestures that preserve life

The goal is to form a knowledge production network around themes relevant to life on Earth today, with a program consisting of debates, artistic situations and moments of exchanging experiences around topics such as biodiversity, climate, territory and culture, at their intersections with science, the arts and education.

Thinking about art and nature more broadly invites us to look at ways of being in the world and gestures that preserve life, bringing together voices from different areas of knowledge that amplify and deepen the debate.

Conference with Stefano Harney (USA) and Fred Moten (USA)*

Harney and Moten’s research examines how practices of resistance and solidarity offer new forms of social and intellectual organization, especially within Black and marginalized communities.

Conference with Elizabeth Povinelli (USA) and Gladys Tzul Tzul (GUA)

    Mediator: Fernanda Regaldo (SP)

Elizabeth Povinelli, a North American anthropologist, and Gladys Tzul Tzul, a Mayan Kaqchikel intellectual from Guatemala, propose an in-depth debate about the perspective of Indigenous communities that inhabit post-colonial territories and that codify knowledge about nature, history and spirituality through narratives that indicate alternatives to the hegemonic way of life based on the exploitation and destruction of nature.

Dialogues with Jota Mombaça (CE) and Japira Pataxó (BA)

    Mediator: Beatriz Lemos (RJ)

    September 29, at 2:00 pm

60 spots | Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes | Location: Educational Plant Nursery | Parental Rating: Free

What epistemologies can we resort to when faced with catastrophic scenarios? Japira Pataxó and Jota Mombaça rely on different languages to reactivate the ideas of resilience and transmutation, topics of this meeting in which two voices who know catastrophe and mourning up close activate a radical imagination in favor of the recomposition of new and possible forms of reintegration with the planet.

Artistic situation with Labô Young (PA)
    September 29, at 4:00 pm

60 spots | Duration: 1 hour | Location: Lago Novo (Orange axis) | Parental rating: Free

Labô Young presents a site-specific performance, taking as a starting point the relation between body, nature and home. Using only plants found at Inhotim, the artist will create before the audience a vegetal garment, like a cocoon, which is home, body and protection.

The performance unfolds next to the water and constructs images that refer to different possibilities of the notion of transmutation.
