May at Inhotim
Art, nature, music, education. All this and much more can be found at the Inhotim Inhotim Institute in May’s schedule. The new exhibitions O Barco (2021), by Grada Kilomba, Esconjuro [Expulsion], by Paulo Nazareth, and Essays on landscape can be visited in the Galpão, Praça and Lago galleries, respectively. You can also discover the new exhibitions in the company of Inhotim’s educators at the Mediated Visits. Other temporary exhibitions that are also on view are Direito à forma [Right to form], at the Fonte Gallery, and Giro (2023), by Luana Vitra, at the Marcenaria Gallery.
The works by Paulo Nazareth, in which the artist portrays his mother Dona Ana, are the inspiration for the Mother’s Drawing Themed Visit. On Mother’s Day weekend, visitors will be able to portray their maternal figures, whether they are biological or adoptive mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, etc. At the Panoramic Tour , held daily, it is possible to learn a little about the history of Inhotim.
Every day in a different space, the Moving Atelier brings varied proposals, inviting people of all ages to reflect on the importance of rest in the work Piscina (2009), to investigate the benches by Hugo França, bringing to life sounds from deep within the earth in Sonic Pavilion (2009) and imagining the world of stones alongside Elisa Bracher’s sculptures.
“What is…?” is an activity in which visitors travel along the park’s paths with a question as a starting point that proposes new points of view. In May, “What is a river?” features a conversation with Davi Nascimento and davi de jesus nascimento, father and son, a performance by Pape Babou Seck (Senegal) and a concert with Ava Rocha.
For the music lovers, it is worth planning to attend the series of concerts that the Inhotim Orchestra and the Inhotim Quartet perform in Brumadinho and Belo Horizonte, as part of the Rotas Musicais [Musical Routes] program.
Museum Week 2024 features various events, ranging from observation of the queen-of-the-cerrado—an orchid in peak flowering—to the first immersion of the 12th edition of the project Decentralizing Access .
Other activities of the Museum Week are the 4th Regional Meeting of the Federation of Art Educators of Brazil and a partnership with the Minas Gerais Vale Memorial to discuss research and education in cultural institutions.
The Inhotim Institute is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday. To visit for free, pick up your ticket for Wednesdays or the last Sunday of the month, May 26. Learn more in the Free Inhotim Guide.
